  • Frequently Asked Questions
  • How can I create an account?

For the time being, Skipper Logbook is on trial and only available to selected users. This will hopefully change in the near future.

To create an account, you will need to ask for a token to the administrators. Upon reviewing your request, you will receive an email with a token code that you will need to input on the registration page.

How can I import my flights?

You can import your flights in a few different ways:

    • Verified flights email from your airline.
    • Excel (.xls or .xlsx) file.
    • CSV (.csv) file.
    • Use the built-in forms to manually input the flights.
How to import from Verified Flights emails?

In the past, it was sufficient to forward the email to us. However, the airlines have currently blocked all emails that go to an address outside their organization.

So you will need to go to your Verified Flights email, select all text & copy, and then paste it in the import form.

    How to import from Excel?

Go to the import page, select the Excel tab, and browse your computer folders to select your logbook excel file.

How should the excel file look like?
You can download sample excel file and have a look at its contents to get an idea.

What's the CSV excel format file?
Let's say you already have your logbook in an excel file, but the structure doesn't match the one you can see in the sample above (i.e. the columns are in a differrent order or the data titles are different).
In that case, you would use the CSV excel format file to tell our import function in which order is the data placed in your excel file.

You can download sample CSV excel format file to see how it looks and tailor it to your needs.

Imagine your own excel file looks like this:

Date Dep. Time Arr. Time Dep. Airport Arr. Airport etc.
    01/01/2020 15:45 17:38 EGKK EPWA etc.

In this case, you can see that the data titles (Dep. Time, Arr. Time, etc.) don't match the titles on the sample file, but also the order is different.

Then, you would use a CSV format file with the following structure:

    "date","dep_time","arr_time","dep_place","arr_place",...

Here is the list of all the data titles we use and their description, in the default order:

    • "date": day/month/year on which the flight commenced (e.g. 01/12/2020).
    • "dep_place": departure airport ICAO or IATA code (e.g. EGSS).
    • "dep_time": hours:minutes off block time (e.g. 03:59).
    • "arr_place": arrival airport ICAO or IATA code.
    • "arr_time": hours:minutes on block time.
    • "aircraft_model": type, make or/and model of the aircraft (e.g. B737-800).
    • "aircraft_reg": aircraft tail number/registration (e.g. EI-GNS).
    • "singlepilot_se": total time flown in a Single Pilot Single Engine aircraft.
    • "singlepilot_me": total time flown in a Single Pilot Multi Engine aircraft.
    • "EMPTY": no data in this column.
    • "EMPTY"
    • "multipilot_time": total time flown in a Multi Pilot aircraft.
    • "total_time": total flight time (e.g. 6:25).
    • "pic_name": name of the Pilot In Command or SELF if you are the PIC.
    • "to_day": number of take-offs during daytime.
    • "to_night": number of take-offs during nighttime.
    • "ldg_day": number of landings during daytime.
    • "ldg_night": number of landings during nighttime.
    • "night_time": total time of the flight flown in the hours of darkness (from sunset to sunrise).
    • "ifr_time": total time of the flight flown under Instrument Flight Rules.
    • "pic_time": total time of the flight as Pilot In Command.
    • "copilot_time": total time of the flight as Co-Pilot.
    • "dual_time": total time of the flight as training with an instructor.
    • "instructor_time": total time of the flight as training while you are the instructor.
    • "sim_date": same as 'date' but applicable to a Simulator Session.
    • "sim_type": simulator type, model and/or registration (e.g. FNPT II Reg. EU-123).
    • "sim_time": hours:minutes total time in the simulator (e.g. 4:30).
    • "remarks": any plain text notes about that flight (e.g. CAT III approach, Line Check, etc.).
    How to import from CSV?

Go to the import page, select the CSV tab, and browse your computer folders to select your logbook CSV file.

This CSV file is the same you can export from the logbook page while selecting CSV format, and it should not be modified.

What's the purpose of using CSV import?
This is provided mainly as a backup feature. You can always export your logbook as CSV. Imagine then, you make some undesirable changes in your flights, or delete a few of them by mistake. Then you could easily roll back the changes by importing your CSV file.

Should I export to Excel or CSV format?

    Different formats have different purposes:

    • Excel: default format accepted by many Civil Aviation Authorities.
    • CSV: contains more information per flight, gives you the ability to have more statistics about these flights.
    What's the feature Your airports?

Altough the airport database used by Skipper Logbook is huge and contains most of the airports in the world, it could still happen that when you import your flights we cannot find/recognize one of the airports you have been to.

In this case, we will create a new airport in the database and you will be able to see it in the your aiports page. You will also be able to edit it (i.e. name, location, etc.) as this aiport only belongs to you.

Why should I upload my signature in my profile?

This is completely optional and not required. But, when you export your logbook to PDF format, every page needs to be signed if you will present it to an Employer or an Aviation Authority.

If you have lots of pages in your logbook, upload your signature and it will be automatically attached to every page so you don't have to do it manually.
